ANDREA MICHELLE THOMAS
24. TATTOO Artist. Dauntless. Lily Collins.
You remember falling in love.
You were sixteen, away from home in Erudite for the first time, and you were freaking the hell out over the test. You wanted to be an Erudite like the rest of your family, but you've always worried that you're just not quite smart enough. Every single member of your family is some kind of super genius, and you're... ordinary. Intelligent, yes, but you don't have the same flash of brilliance that they have. They're the types of people who'd build a flying machine and test it out, only to realize that they forgot to include a landing mechanism and manage to install it on the way down before they crash. You're the kind of person who'd much rather stay on the ground. You have a healthy respect for things that could kill you.
But you meet a boy. Isn't that how so many stories go? And he helps you lose your nervousness, your fear, of the tests. He helps you learn to not be afraid, because it turns out that the thing you fear most is not seeing him anymore. The thing you fear most is not having him in your life, even though you've known him for such a short while.
So you learn to not be afraid, and in so doing you discover that you actually have a place in Dauntless, a faction that you'd had no intention ever of going into, even had you not been eligible for Erudite (which you were). It's not that you weren't afraid, it's that you decided you were more willing to do whatever it was you needed to do than to let the fear beat you. Had it just been you, you likely would have stayed with the Erudites, for it was the only life you'd ever known. But you had fallen completely, totally, irrevocably, head over heels for the boy you'd met at the testing, and so when he chose Dauntless, you followed after him. Perhaps it was a bad choice, but it was yours, and it's worked out well.
Your love is different from other people. You see sparks in him that would make him a perfect fit in any of the factions. You know that that's not something to be celebrated, even if you don't know why, so you help him hide his secret, covering for him as best you can whenever you can.
You've always had an artist's soul, and enjoy painting and drawing whenever you can. That's how you met your love, actually. You were so overwhelmed by everything that you were trying to find solace in your first love, and found yourself sketching his face, for you were fascinated by the planes and angles that made up his face. Of course, he noticed you, and from there, it was history. You're fairly quiet, preferring to listen rather than talk whenever you can, though you're not afraid to speak up when you need to. You like to keep your hands busy so you've become adept at knitting and crocheting and the like, as well as playing a few instruments that require dexterity, consistency, and technique, such as the violin, guitar and the piano. You've gotten over most of your fears, but there are some things that still terrify you. Disappointing someone that's important to you is top on that list. You have a hard time when people around you are yelling, because there's this part of you that wants to just curl up in a ball until the yelling goes away. Very rarely do you get involved in an argument such as that, but it has been known to happen. There's no insurgence in you, that's for sure.
You remember falling in love.
How could you forget? It changed everything for you.
