Anabelle was born into the Amity faction, but as she got older she found herself fitting in less and less with her family's faction. On many occasions she would find herself extremely frustrated with the way they chose to solve problems; the few problems they had. She had always agreed on the voting portion of how they decided things, but she just never quite understood how so many people could all agree. It didn't make sense to her and made her feel less like an individual, like she was trapped and they were trying to make her into someone she was not. As strange as it sounds, trying to always get along and be peaceful was tiring for her.
The year her Choosing Ceremony came around she chose Dauntless. Anabelle had always loved how free they looked, how different one was from another. Between the tattoos and the different hair colors. But try as she might, she would never forget the look on her family's faces when she made her decision. Faction before blood. Right? She did not have a visitor on Visitation Day and hadn't seen her family since. It took awhile, but after that she was able to come more to terms with that saying; to really put her faction above her family.
Being a part of Dauntless means that she is always seen in black clothing. Every once in awhile you may see a hint of red, but it is usually a t-shirt under a black jacket of some sort. Like most other Dauntless, her clothing is tight; easy to move in and breathable. As a solider, this is even more true. Being a solider requires her to be able to react quickly, and if her clothing does not move with her body, it makes that very difficult. Most of the time you'll find her guarding the wall but she does occasionally help guard some of the leaders of their city. Ana had done what most Dauntless do and gotten a tattoo during initiation. Just below her collarbone is the word freedom, in a medium font, the top of the m breaking off as if it were a bird.
Anabelle has always been the type of person who puts herself out there. She has many good friends, and a few best friends. She is known by her good friends, and most other people as Ana; only those who she is extremely close to are allowed to call her Belle. She feels the name makes her seem more innocent and weak, something that has never been good for those who are in Dauntless. You must never seem weak. She has never really dated much; and when she has it's been very casual. She's afraid to put herself out there in that sense. Her parents had a fairly uneventful marriage and she never felt like they truly loved each other; it always seemed more like a marriage of convenience and she doesn't want that for herself.
Ana is a very outgoing person, she's a flirt, and loves doing just about anything dangerous. When she first came to Dauntless, she had around twelve fears. Going through her fear landscape she was able to conquer four of those. She has a fear of drowning, a fear of falling in love, a fear of failure, a fear of injections, a fear of snakes, a fear of becoming factionless, a fear of enclosed spaces, and a fear of vulnerability. However, if you asked her, she'd tell you she's not afraid of anything. As time goes on, it becomes clearer that this is where she belongs. She fits in well, and loves her Dauntless life.
